Does Rupert Murdoch understand copyright?
Posted by admin / Under Subscription Business Model
Rupert Murdoch has gone on the offensive to justify his plan to put his newspapers websites behind a paywall. He told a National Press Club event at George Washington University: We are going to stop people like Google or Microsoft or whoever from taking stories for nothing there is a law of copyright and they recognise it. In an interview with Martin Kalb for The Kalb Report, Murdoch set out what the search engines would be permitted to do: Well be very happy if they just publish our headline or a sentence or two and thats followed by a...

My sister has asked me to share in the cost of subscribing to this organization. Other than the organization's own website, very little information comes up with Google and Yahoo search.

Man charged $28,000 for using data card, Slingbox to watch football game
Posted by admin / Under Subscription Business Model
While waiting for a Caribbean cruise liner to set sail from the Port of Miami last November, a Chicago native with an AT&T wireless card and Slingbox decided to catch the Bears vs. Lions football game on his laptop. The end result? A $28,067.31 bill from for international data charges, despite the ship never leaving the harbor. Apparently the card was picking up a signal it shouldn't have, and while the bill was eventually dropped to $290.65 after a considerable number of calls to customer service, let that be a warning to mobile users traveling on the fringe...

However if that is not the case here is my suggestion: I have been wondering about this for some time now and have not seen any discussions about it. So I would like to ask: Is it time for Free Republic to become an online subscription service? Currently, the site is...

GLobe and Mail charging for On Line Access (my title)
Posted by admin / Under Subscription Business Model
Just wanted to warn fellow freepers that it looks like Canada's biggest newspapers now requires a paid subscription to access on line articles. In particular, the editorials, letters and columnists are affected. I guess they were sick of us south of the border reading their socialist nonsense and were tired of us complaining Fox News isn't seen there.

Human Events -- Anyone Subscribe to it? (Vanity)
Posted by admin / Under Subscription Business Model
I already get a lot of great reading material from townhall.com and frontpagemag.com. Does anybody subscribe to Human Events? Is it worth the subscription price? Would you suggest NRO or any other periodical that may be better? Any thoughts? Thanks so much !
