Obama's Mean Streak
Posted by admin / Under Business Group
Barack Obama seems to have a pattern of using ceremonial or stately events as opportunities to ambush and humiliate people. This behavior is unpresidential and reveals a vindictive streak that makes Richard Nixon look like Mister Rogers. A few examples of Obama's taking pleasure in administering public pain to others: During the State of the Union Address, he chose to direct his ire at the justices of the Supreme Court, located in the front rows. After the Supreme Court issued a ruling in favor of the First Amendment regarding political speech, Barack Obama famously chose to dress down the black-clad...

Goldman Sachs bans swearing in e-mails

Goldman Sachs (GS) is banning swearing in employee emails. The message has been spread around the firm verbally rather than in writing, according to The Wall Street Journal. The paper writes: "In the spirit of the times, there is no written directive specifying which curses now are officially cursed. But screening tools being used by the firm would detect common swear words and acronyms." Morgan Stanley (MS) and JPMorgan Chase (JPM) already have similar rules. At CME Group (CME) workers can be fined for profanity. The Journal also writes that such policies have become more widespread. Bloomberg has screened email...

The Unfriendly Skies

I dont know about you, but I love to fly. Put me in a Boeing 707, a Douglas DC-8, or a Convair 990 and Im literally in heaven. Once were safely aloft I sit back in my roomy, brocade-upholstered seat, loosen my tie, stretch my legs all the way out, and call that slender, honey-voiced 23-year-old stewardess in the attractive Pucci uniform over there to bring me a pillow, an aspirin, and an Old Fashioned. Later, shell give me a deck of cards and I and maybe even sit in the empty seat beside me for a hand of gin...

Obama readies major action on immigration enforcement
Posted by admin / Under Business Group
In a bid to remake the enforcement of federal immigration laws, the Obama administration is deporting record numbers of illegal immigrants and auditing hundreds of businesses that blithely hire undocumented workers. The Immigation and Customs Enforcement agency anticipates deporting about 400,000 people this fiscal year, nearly 10 percent above the Bush administration's 2008 total and 25 percent more than were deported in 2007. The pace of company audits has roughly quadrupled since former President Bush's final year in office.

Obama's Soft-Core Socialism (by Steve Forbes)
Posted by admin / Under Business Group
The truth is that not even the Franklin Roosevelt Administration was as hostile to and ignorant about free enterprise as this Administration is. Almost every action Obama officials take underscores their belief in the stereotype that businesspeople are mostly amoral, corner-cutting, consumer-shafting, pollution-loving menaces. The economy itself needs to be tightly controlled and rigidly guided by Washington mandarins because free markets are inherently and destructively unstable. Incrementalism and the velvet glove over an iron fist are Obama's preferred methods. Thus, it will take several years for surviving health care companies to become full-fledged vassals of the federal government, which will...
